Tips
Stand-up paddleboarding is the easiest water sport to look graceful at — once you know three small things.
One: start on your knees. Paddle a few strokes, find your balance, then stand one foot at a time when you feel steady. Two: feet hip-width apart, parallel, mid-board — not too far forward. Three: look at the horizon, not your feet. Your body follows your eyes.
Keep your paddle blade angled away from you (it feels backwards and isn't), and use your core, not your arms. Falling in is part of it and the water is lovely — just relax.
Lagos' calm morning water is the perfect classroom. Within ten minutes most people are cruising.
